API, downloads and MCP
Everything on AISafety.fund is open: query it over a simple web API, download it whole, or connect an AI assistant to it over MCP. It is the same public data the site shows: grants, funders, recipients and money passed between funders, each with its source. Free to use under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; please cite “AISafety.fund”.
People shown as “Individual #<number>” and anything shown as “Undisclosed” chose not to be named. Please don't try to identify them, by any means.
API
Read-only JSON over HTTPS, no key needed, open to any site (CORS). Base address https://aisafety.fund/api/v1; the full description is in OpenAPI form. Every response carries the licence and the privacy note.

Endpoints
| Address | What | Options |
|---|---|---|
/api/v1/grants | Itemised grants (US$), with source links and topic tags | funder (id or part of a name; includes its programmes), recipient, query, tag, from_year, to_year, min_amount, max_amount, include_uncounted, sort (amount, date), order (desc, asc), limit (up to 500), offset, format=csv (up to 10,000 rows) |
/api/v1/summary | Totals of the same grants, grouped | funder (id or part of a name; includes its programmes), recipient, query, tag, from_year, to_year, min_amount, max_amount, include_uncounted, group_by (year, funder, recipient, tag) |
/api/v1/funders | Funders, largest first | query, applications (open, invite, closed, pitch), include_inactive, limit, offset |
/api/v1/funders/{id} | One funder: profile, programmes, totals by year, top recipients | |
/api/v1/recipients | Recipients, by name or description | query, limit, offset |
/api/v1/recipients/{slug} | One recipient and its funders | |
/api/v1/transfers | Money passed between funders | from, to, year, limit, offset |
Grants are counted once, at the funder that chose the recipient; rows left out of totals (off-topic or doubtful) come only with include_uncounted=true. These are itemised grants; the Overview’s yearly totals also include giving that isn’t itemised.
MCP connector
Connect Claude or any other AI assistant that speaks the Model Context Protocol, and ask it about AI safety funding in plain words. Reading needs no account.
AISafety.fund connector: https://mcp.aisafety.fund/mcp reads the live database: funders, grants, published yearly totals, recipients; contributors can sign in to suggest changes.
The API above is plain web requests; over MCP, use the connector (https://aisafety.fund/mcp also leads there).
In Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and paste an address. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http aisafety-fund https://mcp.aisafety.fund/mcp. Other clients: add a remote (Streamable HTTP) server.
